The 7.7.07 Live Earth Pledge:

I PLEDGE:

1. To demand that my country join an international treaty within the next 2 years that cuts global warming pollution by 90% in developed countries and by more than half worldwide in time for the next generation to inherit a healthy earth;

2. To take personal action to help solve the climate crisis by reducing my own CO2 pollution as much as I can and offsetting the rest to become "carbon neutral;"

3. To fight for a moratorium on the construction of any new generating facility that burns coal without the capacity to safely trap and store the CO2;

4. To work for a dramatic increase in the energy efficiency of my home, workplace, school, place of worship, and means of transportation;

5. To fight for laws and policies that expand the use of renewable energy sources and reduce dependence on oil and coal;

6. To plant new trees and to join with others in preserving and protecting forests; and,

7. To buy from businesses and support leaders who share my commitment to solving the climate crisis and building a sustainable, just, and prosperous world for the 21st century.

Thanks for posting this. I never knew you were a political activist. It's nice to share another mutual interest. :) I posted it on my lj also.

Foolish
I commented on the Live Earth Pledge on my site that covers global warming, Is It Getting Warmer? (www.globalwarming-factorfiction.com (http://www.globalwarming-factorfiction.com)).  You can read my full comments there (http://globalwarming-factorfiction.com/2007/07/03/live-earth-pledge/) but, in short, I think it is slightly foolish to make a pledge that is nearly impossible to carry out. 90% reduction of carbon footprint on a national scale is almost ludicrous and would cause extreme hardship on any nation, probably causing millions of lives globally.

Re: Foolish
hi,

i dont have much knowledge in these kind of things, such as if the pledge is realistic or not.

one thing i do know however is the earth is slowly dying. it doesnt take a scientist to notice the drastic weather changes.

besides i've always been told to aim high so you'll at least end up somewhere close to your goal. you got to start somewhere, right? it's the optimistic side of me talking, really.

i believe the earth is slowly dying but i believe we can help it. if you already denied the fact that it doesnt work, it'll never happen on your part. it's like the self fulfilling prophecy.

i wanna leave a better earth for the future.

thanks for taking the time to post on my journal
